Oswald Achenbach (1827-1905) was a German artist known for his panoramic landscape paintings with impressive use of light. He began his artistic studies in the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, at the age of eight and later became considered an important figure in the history of 19th-century landscape painting. Achenbach's works are among the collections of the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
