  • Oil painting of A Vanitas Still Life with Parrot after Jacob Marrel

Oil painting on canvas interpreting A Vanitas Still Life with Parrot by Jacob Marrel.

A Vanitas is a still life artwork which includes various symbolic objects designed to remind the viewer of their mortality and of the worthlessness of worldly goods and pleasures. The original artwork by Marrel included a skull and black beetles which have been removed in this interpretation.

Jacob Marrell (1614-1681) was a Dutch artist, apprenticed to the Frankfurt still-life artist Georg Flegel, and his earliest known works date from 1634. He was active in the northern Netherlands as well as Germany and is known to have spent time in Utrecht where he not only painted, but dealt in art and in flower bulbs.

Hand painted in oils by an individual artist, this painting has been stretched and is ready for mounting in your choice of solid wood frame:

Mahogany veneer with gilded highlights +$240
Carved corner decoration only, gilded finish +$280
Fully carved swept frame, gilded finish +$470
