    The original painting, fully titled A View Of The Grand Canal Looking South From The Palazzo Foscari And Palazzo Moro-Lin Towards The Church Of Santa Maria Della Carità, With Numerous Gondolas And Barges, was sold by Sothebys, England for £2.5 million.

    Bernardo Bellotto (1722 - 1780) was an Italian urban landscape painter, best known for his views of northern European cities, which are considered his greatest achievements. These works are characterised by panoramic compositions, strongly contrasted use of light and shadow, and meticulous attention to architectural detail.
